How long is the bizSAFE certification
valid for?
Many companies wonder how long bizSAFE certification lasts. The answer varies depending on the level the company has achieved.
In Singapore’s performance-driven and competitive landscape, achieving highly recognized certifications is important for companies. Organizations are aware of the importance and benefits of these certifications, so they actively apply for them these days. But some certifications have limited validity. Companies need to be aware of their certification validity to maintain a good reputation among stakeholders.
1.Quick Overview of bizSAFE
bizSAFE is a highly recognized certification in Singapore that ensures workplace safety and health practices within the organization. It is a five level program supported by the Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) Council in Singapore.
bizSAFE 1: Top management from the organization attends a half-day workshop to understand legal obligations and WSH policy. This stage ensures the understanding and commitment of executives
bizSAFE 2: An employee or a supervisor joins a 2-day course to learn Risk Management (RM)
bizSAFE 3: In this stage, companies need to implement Risk Management strategies at the workplace. There will also be an RM audit and companies must pass it to achieve bizSAFE Level 3
bizSAFE 4: Development and implementation of a WSH management system at the workplace is necessary for this level
bizSAFE Star: An organization must be officially certified to a recognized WSH management system to achieve the highest level of bizSAFE programme
2.bizSAFE Certificate Validity by Level
The validity of bizSAFE certificates varies based on the bizSAFE level the company has achieved.
bizSAFE Level 1: A company’s bizSAFE Level 1 certificate is valid for 6 months from the approval date. You cannot renew bizSAFE 1 as WSH encourages progress
bizSAFE Level 2: bizSAFE 2 is also similar to Level 1. The certificate is valid for 6 months upon approval, but does not allow renewal. You will need to progress to bizSAFE Level 3 and above
bizSAFE Level 3: System implementation and effective audits are included in this stage. bizSAFE Level 3 is valid for 3 years from the approval date. But if you use different approaches rather than the RM Audit report, the validity will vary
bizSAFE Level 4: The validity of bizSAFE 4 is the same as bizSAFE 3. If you use a RM implementation audit report, the certificate is valid for 3 years
3.Strategies for Renewing and Progressing in bizSAFE Certification
It is important for companies to plan ahead to maintain continuous compliance with bizSAFE certification. Here are some tips for a seamless and smooth renewal process.
Track Expiry Dates Early
You should not wait until the last month to plan the certificate renewal process. Planning at least 6 months ahead can give you time to plan strategically.
Review Your Risk Management and Assessments
Your documents for risk management and assessments should be updated. You need to review these to ensure they reflect current strategies and operations at your workplace.
Consult With Internal Auditors
You should also consult with your internal auditor to ensure the implemented Risk Management plan meets the standards. Fixing the gaps before the external audit ensures smooth progress.
